Shutterboo WPC – Week 13 – Past

Still playing catchup on my Photo Challenge has put me behind in a few aspects including this blog. Week 12 saw us take on the topic of past. I had a set idea initially of what I wanted to do for this week however my best laid plans never eventuated.
It was my dad's birthday the weekend I took this photo and so we had gone out for a lunch. After lunch my family took my niece to the park. While we were there, my 81 year old nanna and her friend relived past joys of the wind flying through their hair on the swings.
I edited this photo for the first time using Photoshop which was a HUGE step for me given that it scared the bejeezus out of me.

Shutterboo WPC – Week11 – Curves – Expectant

This week’s topic was curves.

I am VERY excited for the arrival of my new niece or nephew who is due to arrive next month. I was also VERY glad to hear this topic came up before they came. lol

My sister-in-law has the most gorgeous belly. I love when I get to see the baby moving and when my niece gives her mum’s belly kisses. The curves of pregnancy are absolutely beautiful.

Shutterboo WPC – Week10 – Mess – Golden Orb Spider (Nephila plumipes)

I’m a little late in my photo submissions for the past few weeks. I had surgery and so have been laid up recovering!

Whilst at my brother and sister-in-law’s house, I was introduced to this industrious Golden Orb Spider. It had cast an AWESOME web and the strength in some of the threads of the web was amazing! The web however appeared to contain a higgledy piggledy jumbled mess of threads which was doing an effective job in catching many bugs. The spider brought back these flies and made a healthy collection of corpses!

  • Exposure0.006 sec (1/160)
  • Aperturef/11.0

This weeks topic was ‘Large’.

This week I made a trip to Sydney and met rebeccavoy. We had a great time seeing some Sydney sights and attending Armageddon Expo, a convention for geeks :D

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a pretty Impressive sight and seeing the little ants walking across it put the size of it into perspective. The thing is HUGE!!!

Shutterboo WPC – Week Eight – White

This week the topic was white.

I have a friend visiting with her family from Texas, USA and knew I was taking her for a visit to Grant’s Picnic Ground in the Dandenong Ranges where you can feed the wild birds. There are several different types of birds up there, my favourite though are the Sulfur Crested Cockatoos. They are so cheeky and they make me laugh with their antics. You can be lucky enough to have Cockatoos on both arms and on your shoulders if they feel like it.

I love the colour combinations on these cockatoos and their white feathers can look so soft and vibrantly white.

Shutterboo WPC – Week Seven – Fear

OK I’m a day late this week for my photo challenge. I was struggling to get a grasp on what to take a picture of. I had the chance to take a photo of my dogs fear when we had an EPIC thunderstorm, which she HATES, but she was too scared and needed comfort. So instead I spent my time patting her and watching my backyard flood with the inundation of water

Then I was stuck…what to do…rebeccavoy suggested I find a spider as I have regular visits from my local Huntsman spiders and, as Becca can attest to, I can be quite squealy screamy when I have to deal with them LOL. They don’t hurt you but they are quite large and can be jumpy. So, whilst I can deal with them, I have a huge fear is that they will run up my arm when I’m trying to catch them to put them outside. (I had one run across my hand when I went to the letterbox one day so I know it is a totally freaky feeling.)

Tonight I walked in the door, down the hall, looked up and there she was. I quickly ran to get a glass and caught her. She wasn’t as big as some I’ve gotten in my house, but she’d do ;) Then I knew I wanted to put her in my lightbox with my iPhone so in she went. Getting her out of the glass took a while and then it was time to wrangle her. She was pretty skittish but did listen when I spoke to her…

“A little to your left, don’t move, stay, smile for the camera…okay *snap* okay no not that way back here, come on, come on, ok now STAY!!!” LOL Oh to have had it on video.

So i took a few shots and then she checked out her reflection in the phone and I knew that was the shot I was after. Then I scooped her up and took her outside. I had finally gotten my Weekly photo and I was very happy :)

PS Sorry if you are real arachnaphobes.

This is my Final Photo

Shutterboo WPC – Week Six – Repetition

This week I had an idea on how to do tackle this topic though I failed a little in the execution of my initial subject. So I thought of another similar way to do it but for that I wanted a light box.

So began my afternoon…i wished for extra hands and had to alter a box slightly, gave myself a sore back but I got it done :D

Then I set up my photo….some photo editing and Voila my Weekly photo Challenge was Complete!!
